Gosh, Where does time go? I started my career in real estate in 1995 in Goodlettsville, TN at Crye-Leike Realtors. It was an amazing time to be in real estate, as I had just been laid off from my job at The Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt. You see, I was working on a Masters in Psychology at the time, and had a goal of eventually opening a private counseling practice upon graduation. My daughter Sarah Beth was just born, and I will never forget the look on my wife Lisa’s face when I walked through the door early with a two weeks severance check, and announced I wanted to go to real estate classes! She was panicked! You see, I had actually passed the real estate exam back in 1985 when I was just 19 years old. I had lots of confidence I could sell real estate, but had no training. By the grace of God, one night, I was at a party at a friends home and a couple my age was there! They needed to sell their home, and I really wanted (NEEDED) to make money. They trusted me, and allowed me to sell their home. Somehow or another, I took the listing, and sold the home for top dollar in about 30 days. That got me off to the races! I will never forget me taking them to a restaurant afterwards, and they asked me if I had ever sold real estate before. Of course, I had to fess up how new I actually was, but by that time, I had the fever!
After about 6 months in to selling real estate, and having only sold one property, I realized I wasn’t gonna make it. The one thing, though, was I really enjoyed working with people. I was able to convince a Sales Manager at Centex Homes to hire me, and with great training, I was off to the races. I attained Sales Person of the Quarter three straight times in 1996 in only my first year, and had the home sales bug bad! Around 1997, I was approached by a gentlemen who owned a 100+ person real estate company, and he asked me to come head up a new program as a Vice President, called Home at the Mall. You may remember that business if you shopped at area malls in the late 1990’s! We were geared around selling primarily new construction from Kiosks. I sat for my Broker’s license after my second year in rel estate, and passed! I was an actual Broker by the age of 30, which was unheard of. I managed around 70 agents for about two years.
In 1999, I traveled to Toronto Canada to see an awesome real estate trainer by the name of Craig Proctor. Craig believed in proven systems, and that was an eye opening 4 days! When I left Craig’s seminar, I knew I had to jump in to real estate systems if I ever wanted to have the business I dreamed of. I left and went to REMAX Elite in Brentwood TN, and hired 5 Buyer’s Agents. After about two months at REMAX, the owner saw a vision to open an office in Franklin, TN, and asked me to manage the office. The office was nothing but a dream…..no people….no office space….no clients. As I love a challenge, I said YES! Within a couple of years, the office became a thriving 45 agent office, doing over $130 MILLION in annualized sales in one of the wealthiest counties in the US.
In 2007, I began training agents in Best Practice Marketing. I traveled consistently around the US, and trained agents in online and offline marketing. I became the CEO and Co-Founder of Busy Agent Pro, and enjoyed helping agents reach toward their potential. As I got further and further in to technology, I helped Co-Found a content curation company called HyPRcast.com. Over the past years, I have acted as the Principal Broker and Vice President to numerous companies including REMAX, Keller Williams, EXIT Realty and Crye Leike Realtors.
I have obtained numerous designations, including the highly coveted CRS (Council of Residential Specialists), CRB (Council on Residential Brokerage), ABRM (Accredited Buyers Representative Manager), ABR (Accredited Buyers Representative), CRESC (Certified Real Estate Sales Coach), CSP (Certified New Home Sales Professional), CMP (Certified New Home Marketing Professional) and a MIRM (Member of the Institute of Residential Marketing) candidate.
